Big Red Wagon
Washington and Spokane Falls Blvd.
by Seth Vincent

Early one morning I fell asleep in the grass of Riverfront Park and dreamed I found an underground labyrinth.
I crept around, the walls seemed permeable, and monsters that took no shape haunted me as I walked the barren halls.
I began climbing stairs that seemed to reach too high to still be underground.
The stairs stopped. I thought I reached the top. I did.
The floor was flat, so I stood still for as long as I could stand.
I felt a rumbling beneath me and worried the whole underground might collapse.
The howls of the rumbled dead came from behind me, so I rushed carefully forward and found myself slipping downward fast and out of control until suddenly it was bright. I was out of the labyrinth. Alive.
And, strangely, awake.
As I sat up, a woman was speaking to me, saying, "You can't sleep here, kids are playing here, you need to go somewhere else."
